Protrombine (factor II) is een vitamine K-afhankelijk eiwit dat betrokken is bij coagulatie. Bij activering wordt protrombine gesplitst om trombine te vormen. Trombine is een serineprotease dat fibrinogeen omzet in fibrine dat een stolsel vormt. Bovendien katalyseert trombine vele andere stollingsgerelateerde reacties
